Ramp heating is used to protect the road surface from slipperiness due to frost and snowfall and is applicable under various forms of pavement. Besides a lot of inconvenience, ramp heating thus prevents dangerous situations: accidents and falls regularly occur due to slipperiness and can result in many injuries. Thus, good ramp heating is indispensable to ensure safety.

Technical adviceElectric road surface heating consists of heating cables mounted in pattern on a top grid. The choice of type of heating cable depends on the finish layer chosen, for example, under asphalt a cable with higher power is chosen than under concrete, for example. In most cases, we recommend the use of heating cables when installing driveway heating. HGI ramp heating is an energy efficient system. When installing road surface heating, 2 “sensors” are placed in the road surface. These sensors measure the temperature and detect the presence of moisture or winter precipitation.
By means of a corresponding control box, the heating system is automatically activated at a preset value (often 3 degrees above zero). As a result, the system consumes no more energy than necessary. On average, the system will only be on for 100-150 hours per year. If desired, the control box can be equipped with, among other things, a fault detector, kWh counter and a potential-free contact.
