Ramp Heating

Ramp heating is used to protect the road surface from slipperiness due to frost and snowfall and is applicable under various forms of pavement. Besides a lot of inconvenience, ramp heating thus prevents dangerous situations: accidents and falls regularly occur due to slipperiness and can result in many injuries. Thus, good ramp heating is indispensable to ensure safety.

Hospitals, VVEs, distribution companies and supermarkets are just a few examples of companies and organizations where ramp heating is commonly applied.

Types of road surfaces

Electric road surface heating consists of heating cables mounted in pattern on a top grid. The choice of type of heating cable depends on the finish layer chosen, for example, under asphalt a cable with higher power is chosen than under concrete, for example. Below are the specifications for the different finishing layers:

  • Concrete: the most common finish. Custom-made heating cables are mounted on a top mesh. The cover layer above the cable should be 3-4 cm. Typically 200-220W/m2 of power is installed.
  • Asphalt: special heating cables, resistant to high temperatures, are custom-made. In this application, 300-350W/m2 of power is installed.
  • Clinkers: with clinkers, the procedure is different from the other screeds. Stabilized sand is used on which custom-made heating mats are placed. These mats are covered with a 2-3cm layer of stabilized sand. The ideal thickness of the clinkers is about 6cm. 300W/m2 is installed with clinkers.

Heating cables or mats?

In most cases, we recommend the use of heating cables when installing driveway heating. With loose cable is much more flexible to work, the pattern is drawn by our specialists and then laid according to the drawing. In this way js an optimal distribution of the cable and thus of the heat .to achieve.

We use mats mainly when the finishing layer will consist of clinkers. Because bricks are laid on a bed of stabilized sand, loose cables cannot be fixed to them. In these cases, heating mats offer a solution: these can be rolled out on the sand bed.

Special 35w/m cable

Heating Group has designed its own line of heating cables where the 35w/m cable is unique in the industry. Because of the higher power, we need less cable to heat up a surface and that obviously saves on costs!

Track heating or surface heating

In addition to the choice of finishing layers, road surface heating can be chosen for track heating or surface heating.

  • With track heating, only the driving tracks are heated, these are standard 90 cm wide but can be made narrower or wider if desired.
  • With surface heating, the entire surface is heated with only unheated edges at the sides.

Reduced consumption through smart sensors

HGI ramp heating is an energy efficient system. When installing road surface heating, 2 “sensors” are placed in the road surface. These sensors measure the temperature and detect the presence of moisture or winter precipitation.
By means of a corresponding control box, the heating system is automatically activated at a preset value (often 3 degrees above zero). As a result, the system consumes no more energy than necessary. On average, the system will only be on for 100-150 hours per year. If desired, the control box can be equipped with, among other things, a fault detector, kWh counter and a potential-free contact.

Excellent service & warranty

When you choose ramp heating from Heating Group you are choosing quality, service and the longest warranty guaranteed.

At Heating Group, we are known for our excellent service. We are very flexible in our planning, provide fast installation and can act as a contractor for renovations if required. In addition, our warranty period is very broad: standard is a 10-year warranty, with installation by Heating Group we increase this warranty to 15 years and with the conclusion of a service contract even to 20 years warranty. In comparison: 2 years warranty is the legal standard.
When you enter into a service contract, you are also assured of an annual inspection of the road surface heating before the winter period and a short response time in case of failure. So you can rely on a safe road surface at all times.
