Explosion-proof flange heaters

Heating Group designs explosion-proof flange heaters that conform to the ATEX directive 94/9/EC, the IECex directive and the European norms EN50014, EN50018 and EN50019 according to CENELEC. The heaters have been certified by the European independent certifying body IBEXU from Germany. The heating Group International ATEX flange heaters are suitable for use in zone 1 and 2 and for the gas groups IIA, IIB and IIC and temperature class T1 up to T6. The flanges can be made from steel, stainless steel, Incoloy, and so on. The heaters are available as standard with a flange connection of 1½” up to and including 20″ (DN40 to DN500). Larger diameter flanges are available on request.

Explosion-proof flange heaters

Explosion-proof flange heaters are also known as insert batteries. These are heaters for heating and/or keeping liquids, oils and gases warm in an explosive environment. Explosion-proof flange heaters are mainly used in the chemical, petrochemical, process and offshore industry and in military installations.

The element bundle is equipped with so-called baffles. These make sure that the medium cannot follow a straight path along with the elements but is forced through the baffles in a different direction, as a result of which, due to the greater turbulence this creates, the more uniform heat transfer takes place.

Temperature control ex flange heaters

For temperature control of the medium, an external temperature gauge must be included in the user’s process. Heating Group can advise on this and can of course also supply the complete arrangement.

The temperature of the element is monitored by a temperature limiter and/or a controller. This is to guarantee the T-class. This can be done with capillary thermostats, PT100’s or thermocouples.

Every explosion-proof flange heater must be operated with a control panel. The power supply and temperature monitoring of the battery are included in this control panel. It is also common for the temperature measurement to be controlled by the user from this cabinet. The control cabinets can be produced explosion-proof or not, depending on where they are going to be installed.

Performance

The flange can be made of steel, stainless steel, Incoloy etc. The batteries are available with a flange connection of 1.5 “to 20” (DN40 to DN500). Depending on the application, the elements can be made in various stainless-steel types, Incoloy 800 or Incoloy 825. Depending on the application, the explosion-proof pressure-resistant housing is made of cast iron, steel or stainless steel.
